it’s been six months since i’ve documented a thing about this little kid. so out of character i know, and so gut-wrenchingly painful now, half a year later. time really is a bitch. while the three of us are currently so unsettled and desperatly anxious to get back to some sort of structure and routine, there’s also something so comfortable and settling between our little unit that make me want to stay right here in this particular season of life for way longer than i’m offered. such is life.

so here’s what you’ve missed, in particular order 😉

lady had her first haircut. if you can even call it that. i mere centimeter was trimmed in hopes of evening out her mess and encouraging those locks to get a move on. while it’s taken some time, i can report that we’ve finally got some growth! we even toss a top knot in the mix every once and a while.
we went through a phase where logan was overworked which resulted in the response of ‘i can’t, i’m super busy’ when asked to do absolutely anything and everything. and to be honest, we get a much sassier response more recently that we’re constantly working on.
the obsession with stuffies is almost overbearing. every small creature needs a mama and every big beast needs a baby. they’re not only taking over my parents house but the struggle to find space to lie down in bed is so real.
logan hit the scale at 30lbs 15 months ago and hasn’t gained an ounce since. while i question this stunted growth, i honestly wouldn’t mind if she stayed this small forever.
back in june, lo told me i was her ‘favorite girl in life’ where as last week i was told ‘i know you want to be my best friend but you’re not.’ did i already mention she’s sassy?!
she’s also strong willed and determined and beats to her own drum. that said, after a few uninterested prompts at potty training, she pretty much woke up one summer morning and decided diapers were so last year. just like that, gone, done, see ya later.
did i mention baby dolls, including the infamous baby doll, were all dropped like its hot?!
lo became a swifty, like every other chick in america, and mesmorizes me with her memorized lyrics and booty shaking.
lo had the responsibility of ring girl in her aunt laura’s wedding and pulled it off splashingly!
we had our first visit to the pediatric dentist and i was shocked at how interested lo was and still is, in brushing and flossing her pearly whites. that stoic stare and those willy wonka goggles had me at hello.
her tantrums have hit an all time high and if your lucky they typically end with an awesome pile of yack to clean up afterwards. seriously, her determination is out of this world. and if you ask her about it later, she’ll came back at you with a ‘sometimes i just can’t get it together’.
kid would eat cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner if we let her.
dressing this fashionista has become questionable these days, as denim and so many other thicker fibers are so uncomfortable. but i kinda can’t blame her. if it were acceptable for me to wear stretch pants on the daily i’d be right by her side. live it up while you can kid.
the amount of hand gestures this kid uses to articulate her stories is absolutely hysterically. of course we egg her on and keep them going way beyond the point of making any sense.
her favorite colors for months have been pink and green, until just recently she’s moved onto red.
she’s currently kind of obsessed with her new cousin maverick and uses the squeakiest voice and pinches her hands together when talking about how small and how cute this new guy is.

its been quite over here. as in, us ladies have taken a minute or two to step back and focus what free time we have on the more important things. particularly the little people in our lives. or in my case, that not so little anymore person that calls me her best friend. logan turned three a few weeks back and we celebrated in the simplest of ways, partaking in her most favorite activities, surrounded by our families and very best friends. while it feels as though it’s time to hang this space up and move onto whatever’s next, i’m crushed and hesitant for obvious reasons. first: these chicks are my tribe and without them i’d be lost on this adventure through motherhood. good news is, i know where to find them elsewhere! second: this space capsules the beginning of our journey that is logan and i. and while i’m already nestalgic for my baby and thankful i’ve got her story documented right here, it is ONLY just the beginning. the future holds big adventure for us polinsky’s. after all that repeated talk, we’re actually moving to the city. and not the city of brotherly love, a hop skip and jump away. the big apple is calling our names! it’s exhilarating, and terrifying, and excitingly awesome and exhausting all in the same. and although i’m not sure where my internet presence stands, i know i’ve got a story to document somewhere. onto chapter three.
this is black, signing over and out.

and just like that it’s over. yummy smelling trees litter the sidewalks and we’re already a week into january. i miss it already, cause man this holiday season was more magical than ever! for obvious reasons, and i imagine it only gets more exciting from here. we spent a decent amount of december chasing one christmas extravaganza to another, and while december was filled with record breaking tantrums, looking back i hardly feel the pain. the pain of a two week long sinus infection, now that’s another story cause it’s still lingering. although it completely ruined all plans i dreamt of making happen over our holiday break, it forced us to shut down and relax. remember that wicked path we were headed down that i previously mentioned? yeah, well looking back, i think the kid was on overdrive and craved a week of pajama wearing and toy playing within her own space. cause let me tell you, that wicked monster turned sweet as skittles. and although i wasn’t up for much, it was the perfect amount of enough for lo and i. let this be a lesson to myself that sometimes even the little people get stressed out, over worked and need a break of their own. here’s to more simple days in two thousand and fifteen. that said, the sofa beside the tree is calling my name…cause you damn well know she’s still lit and looking pretty over here!

we bundled up and left the house sunday morning with two objectives: find a christmas tree and attempt to shoot our little elf for our holiday card. we accomplished both, although it wasn’t easy (wink). this babe is none stop and asking her to sit still is nearly impossible. regardless, we had a wonderful wintery adventure amongst a sea of trees. i’ve said it once and i’ll say it again, this really is the most wonderful time of year and logan adds a whole new level of magic to our days.

52 project – a portrait of logan, once a week, every week, in 2013

as i previously mentioned, without a doubt, i can count on two hands the number of times my guy and i have ventured out completely alone since baby. who is really now a toddler. sad i know. i blame it on several things. first, there’s the guilt associated with leaving logan behind after a week already spent away at work. second, is our own insecurities about hiring an actual babysitter because we often feel like deadbeat parents constantly asking grandparents for help, despite their persistence that they enjoy every chance they get and wouldn’t mind if we packed up and skipped town (for like ever). and i especially cringe when calling my mom, as she’s already spent the majority of her week caring for lo daily during our nine to five. lastly, when the opportunity does arise, it’s super hard to pass on catching up with friends and/or tackling some project that’s way easier to accomplish on our own. and then there’s always the dream of spending what time you’ve got, completely alone and quiet. man, this parenting act requires a lot of juggling!

recently we’ve been running on auto pilot. completely focused on making our threesome flow and completely neglecting our party of two. not good. before things got away from us, we enlisted said grandparents and mandated a formal date, alone. and let me tell you, it was exactly what the doctor ordered! while the undivided attention made us miss our endless days together filled with adult conversation and little to no responsibility, it made us realize just how important it is that we play for the same team and stay connected. and we’ve had a ton of fun. after all, he is my best guy, the ying to my yang. so here’s to setting the best example for logan, ensuring that she views us not only as parents but as one another’s best friend.

as silly as it sounds, we’re committed to this dating game, bi-weekly. and with two already under our belt, i’ve already realized just how much i’ve missed my guy and how a simple night out brings back yet another long lost element of our previous life. at this rate there’s hope that this new version of myself will someday resemble the girl i once knew!

disclaimer: obviously these pictures have nothing to do with the content of this post, as there is no photographic evidence of said date(s). let’s be realistic, that’d be way out of character.

summer lovin’

summer lovin

we’ve been home from vacation for two weeks now and we’re still having a hard time facing reality. there’s something magical about long summer days that seem to slow down the clock and reinforce the desire for relaxation. we were lucky enough to spend an entire week on hilton head island doing absolutely nothing. it was refreshing to put all our other responsibilities aside and totally tune into this baby of ours. oh my how things have changed since last year. to watch her explore and take everything in is something else. i hope she remembers these traditions we’re starting and looks back on them with sweet memories as i do today myself.

a brunette birthday

17

we’re celebrating our favorite brunette’s birthday today. knee deep in home renovations and consumed by the impending birth of her littlest boyfriend, this lady definitely deserves to kick back and relax. here’s hoping! be sure to send our girl some birthday love!

philly flea

2013.05.31the six of us have ventured to brooklyn on several occasions for the one and only…brooklyn flea. we’ve scowered both one hanson in the winter and fort greene in the summer and have plenty of tales to tell. lucky for us (that is a particular four of us) the flea is headed to philly, launching this sunday at the piazza in northern liberties. i’m assuming we’re down to check it out and most definitely bump-ing into brunette and her baby daddy. with over one hundred vendors we’re bound to stumble upon some treasures and if nothing else i’m sure we’ll devour plenty of delicious treats. be good to us philly flea.

logan is 1

we recently hosted a mini celebration in honor of our one year old gal with the help of all our closest friends and family. the plan was to keep it sweet and simple. pizza and goldfish were at the top of the menu, while garlands, balloons and party hats set the scene. logan adored all the attention, approved of all her gifts and delicately dug into her cake. it was magically perfect. i made it a point to step back and take it all in…my favorite people overflowing the rooms of our quaint home filled with loud chatter and little girl shrills. i’ll remember one forever.

life lately

2013.04.05

life lately, according to my camera. ok i lied…according to my iphone. but hey, we’ve got proof i exist so that must count for something right? we’re completely mobile now, which means us big people are constantly scrounging for ways to keep this little miss occupied. we’ve begun exploring the outdoors now that the weather is just starting to cooperate and lighten up. while we’re not fans of the swing set, we love the slide and have a major obsession with playing in the wood chips. here’s to another weekend of adventure. hopefully…
